Rain, rain and more rain!!! Regen, Regen und noch mehr Regen!!!

After having a wonderful time in Rome where the highlights really speak for themselves we boarded the not so fantastic ‘Fantastic Ferry’ in Civitavecchia just north of Rome and headed for Tunisia. The ferry should have taken about 24 hours but after an extended stop-over in Palermo due to a total lack of organisation by customs we took even longer and were VERY pleased to get off this ferry in Tunis and meet the lovely folk at customs and border control!

Tunis was really lovely. The suburb of Sidi Bou Saíd with its white-washed walls and blue shutters with coastal views is a real treat and the ruins of Carthage with a bit of imagination in terms of how they would have been also a highlight. The medina is full of souks and once off the main tourist street was a winding maze of old buildings, mosques and smells of local food.

We attempted to leave Tunis but due to Tille being ill and my poor navigational skills (seems that big cities are not my thing!) after a few hours we were outside of Tunis but on the wrong side. In my defence, navigating from the back of a bike using the yell through the helmet methods when many signs are in Arabic and the locals seems to have no respect for lanes on roads makes life a little difficult! We finally made it to Mjez el Bab which is a town not to be re-visited.

We are now in El Kef which is a small city on a hill in the north west of Tunisia – luckily it is a nice place as due to heavy rain we are stranded here for a day or two until we can finally get ourselves to the Sahara where we are sure it CAN NOT RAIN!

Regen, Regen und noch mehr Regen!!!

Nach eine sehr schönes Seit im Rom woher die Hauptpunkte sprechen für sich, wir sind mit die nicht so fantastisch ‚Fantastic Ferry‘ nach Tunesien gefahren. Die Fahrt sollte 24 Std. dauern aber wegen eine lange Pause im Palermo (danke Italien Polizei) war noch lange und wir waren sehr froh im Tunis anzukommen. Hier wir haben die sehr nette Zoll-mensch kennengelernt!

Tunis war super. Die Vorort Sidi Bou Saíd hat weiße Gebäude mit blauen Fenstern und mehrblick. Die Carthage Ruine mit eine bisschen glauben waren auch eine Hauptpunkt. Die Medina hat viele souks und die Wege außer dem Touristischen Teil waren voll mit alter Gebäude, Moschee und Lokales Essen.

Wir versucht Tunis zulassen aber wegen Tille‘s Krankheit und Ainslie‘s schlechtes Navigatoren Fähigkeit nach ein paar Stunden wir waren außer Tunis aber in die falsche Richtung! Wir müssen aber sagen dass Navigation von hinter das Motorrad wenn die Schilden auf Arabisch sind und die Leute fahren überall und nicht im die Spuren ist nicht so einfach! Wir fanden ein kleines Dorf, Mjez el Bab mit einem Hotel und können nur sagen dass wir nie zurück dorthin gehen werden!

Wir sind jetzt in El Kef und haben glück dass die schön ist weil wir hier blieben müssen bis die Regen (das uns von Heidelberg gefolgte hat) ist weg! Wir glauben (und hoffen) dass wenn wir endlich in die Sahara kommen es wird KEIN MEHR REGEN!
