Packing Lists

One bike, two people, four months on the road - what to pack when you only have a pair of panniers, a roll bag and a tank bag?


Medical: Vaccinations (before you go), basic first aid kit, themometer, malaria prevention, tablets for everything you can think of, mosquito net, insect repellent, water purifier (steri-pen and liquid), ear plugs and sunscreen.


Household: Toiletries (basics only), lightweight tent, thermarest (2), inflatable pillow (2), sleeping bag (2), silk sack (2), tripod folding chair (2), travel towel (2), petrol stove, small pots (2), folding cups and cutlery (2), swiss army knife, head torch (2), washing powder and pegless line, dish scubber/liquid, loo paper, camel-back water packs (2), expandable canvas water bag.


Gadgets and Tools: Camera (extra memory cards), GPS, satellite phone, African roadmaps, PDF of Lonely Planet Africa, power adapter plugs, padlock and chain, tyre foot pump.


His: Bike trousers, jacket, boots, helmet and gloves, windbreaker/fleece, thermals top and bottom, t-shirts, long sleeve shirt, trousers, shorts, bathers, hat, snood, crocs, socks, jocks and sunglasses.


Hers: Bike trousers, jacket, boots, helmet and gloves, windbreaker/fleece, thermals top and bottom, t-shirts, long sleeve shirt, trousers, 3 in 1 dress/skirt, bathers, hat, scarf, flip flops, folding shoes, socks, undies, sunglasses, folding bag (a girl still needs some sort of handbag!).


Other stuff: Playing cards, USB stick (important docs scanned), copies of documents, passport photos.
